If your car has professional navigation and the car is from 2017 or younger, it is often possible to have Apple CarPlay activated in the car. This is a lifetime activation. It is possible to activate it in the original BMW layout (split screen) as well as in full screen mode. Existing Carplay can also be converted to display in full screen.
BMW Tweaks prefers to install only original Apple CarPlay. That way you’ll experience CarPlay the way BMW and Apple envisioned it. For certain cars, an original implementation is difficult to accomplish due to hardware restrictions or because the required hardware upgrades are simply very expensive. For the proper functioning of CarPlay, it may be necessary for the car to receive a software update. That chance is greatest with cars from 2016 and 2017 that have not been updated by the dealer since then. We can provide this update and we can indicate in advance whether an update is necessary. Furthermore, not all BMWs come equipped with the necessary WiFi antenna. If this antenna is not yet installed, we can supply and install it for a small fee.
A lot of people inquire about activation of CarPlay in their BMW 2-series Active tourer or Gran Tourer. Sadly, those models along with 2018+ X1 and X2 nearly all require expensive hardware replacements in order to activate CarPlay. It’s definitely possible, but usually requires well over one thousand euro in hardware upgrades.
